The name comes from the UCL Japan Monument, a tribute to UCL’s earliest students from Japan: the Choshu Five. These five young noblemen were among the earliest international students to study at UCL and returned to enjoy esteemed careers in Japan with one becoming Prime Minister. #loveUCL
