@jkenney and the @alberta_ucp released two television advertisements this week.
You know I have to be honest, I liked the “Strong and Free” tagline until I heard it repeated over and over again in the commercials like a mantra. For a moment, I felt if I didn’t break my gaze with the screen I might have become indentured into Kenney’s service for the rest of time -- which means that the ads are probably serving their intended purpose. But let’s be clear -- these are big, targeted ad buys shoring up known weaknesses in his profile as a leader and in the party overall:
1. Many women view him as extreme and some are put off by his more socially conservative views (which is why we see only women in the frame saying glowing things about him). 2. There has been a good deal of media coverage surrounding the connections between the UCP and 'alt' or 'far-right' groups who harbour abhorrent views (which is why we see an incredibly diverse set of candidates who are talking about “Taking Alberta Forward.” A more progressive turn of phrase). From recruitment to communications, this has been by design.
The phrase "Alberta Advantage" is sprinkled in throughout. They even interspersed footage of a speech he gave at the UCP’s Pride Breakfast -- which if you remember he held after he and the UCP were banned from marching in Edmonton’s Pride Parade.
In sum: A little too on the nose, delivered with the subtlety of a sledgehammer...but effective overall.

Anyone else super low-maintenance with their hair? 🙋🏼♀️🙋🏼♀️I only colour my hair once (or twice if I’m feeling it) a year now. •
I used to be the typically hair stylist that got her colour done every 3-4 weeks and honestly who has time for that? 🤷🏼♀️ I like to use that mentality for my clients. •
Whether you colour your hair for fun or you’re camouflaging arctic blondes, whatever the case may be, 80% of my clientele only sees me 2-4 times a year. •
When you sit in my chair, my job is to give you a simple style when it comes to cuts and colour. Simple meaning you can achieve a similar look at home with the steps I give you. You can grow your style out easily over time and not be worrying how it looks 4-6 months later.
Finding balance has been something I’ve been struggling with lately. Balance between life, work, photography, and many other things. In this whole struggle, I found my creativity with photography was the one that struggled the most. I started doing this as a hobby because I love my city - I love how every day life is so beautiful but we miss it all as were too busy running from one place to another. Now that things are a bit more calm, I’m beginning to find it again and I’m missing just being out there with my camera. That’s my one of my goals this year - capture more 📷, enjoy more - just live more.
