Join us this Sunday for North Sunderland Sunday, part of our Freight in February celebrations... But what was the North Sunderland Railway?
The North Sunderland Railway was a short privately owned railway that linked the East Coast Main Line at Chathill with the fishing port of Seahouses in Northumberland.
The railway was cheaply built and operated on a shoe string. It bought one locomotive new for opening, but the rest of it’s rolling stock was bought second hand, begged or borrowed.
The railway was never nationalised but was forced to hire a locomotive from British Railways when its own motive power was no longer fit for service by the late 1940s. When British Railways decided to cease providing a hired locomotive the line was effectively forced to close. The last train ran at 4.20pm on Saturday, October 27, 1951.
We will be recreating a typical North Sunderland Railway train using our Armstrong diesel electric locomotive and ex-NER carriages. #northumberland#seahouses#northsunderland#FreightInFeb#recreation#railway#uktrainimages#ukrailscene#blackandwhite#halfterm#trains
The world always looks so interesting through a train window: mysterious, evocative, nostalgic. It has something to do with the way it’s framed, fleetingly, by the moving window, and by the fact that the scene is only visible for seconds. #amtrak#trains#nycbound with @jacquibl

Three way! @tpexpresstrains 350 410 (and 401 on the rear), @gbrailfreight 66 713 'Forest City) and @virgintrains 221 107 (and 106 trailing), all at in one shot. This was during the chaotic delays and cancellations due to the weather back in Scotland. If I have left another millisecond, this would have been my most favourite shot.

I get the train almost everyday so it was good to see it in a different light or #lowlight 📸📸📸
