#Tbt to last summer when 8 students made their debuts as future dive leaders and stewards of the ocean thanks to our friends at the Ocean First Institute in Boulder, Colorado. Selected students received their open water certifications, a full set of dive gear, an introduction to the field of marine science and an all-expenses-paid trip to the Florida keys to put their newfound skills to work.
These instructors don’t play around when it comes to teaching safe diving practices, and during training, they enrolled each of the students in DAN Student Medical Coverage (which is 100% subsidized by DAN for anyone!!). After completing their last checkout dive, all students became DAN members so they could stay protected with a DAN Dive Accident Insurance policy that met their unique diving needs. If you want, you can see exactly how they prioritized safe diving because their entire experience was filmed to create Season 1 of “A Rising Tide”. Season 2 is starting up right now. 🤙🏼

Most of the photos are on my underwater camera, so this teaser will have to do for what I’ve been up to this week in San Jose del Cabo! On the way to the dive site this morning we saw ANOTHER humpback whale breaching, just a little baby one! Dive 800 was yesterday, with hammerheads, a manta and a sea lion. Tomorrow is more sea lions, and tacos. Can’t do anything without tacos!
We got to swim around a dead whale carcass floating off the coast of Hawaii. Never in my life would I thought to be able to see such a great phenomenon up close. Fishes nibbling, birds swooping by and sharks coming in to feed. This is life happening in the ocean. 🐋💙
