It’s rarely a simple answer. And it can be a lot more than just overactive hip flexors and weak glutes which is what a lot people default to.
If I’m being honest, the longer I practice, the less definitive answers I have for my clients. If you think it’s only one thing, check yourself. Head to toe needs to be taken into consideration. Literally, the actual big toe! How about the back line of fascia that runs from the bottom of the foot to the top of the head? The systems of the body. Is there digestive, reproductive, or lymph issues? How about emotional stress? Ten years of going down the rabbit hole, I’m more apt to say, “I’m not sure, let me get back to you.” I’ve also built a professional referral system of chiropractors, physical therapists, dietitians and doctors to help figure out the puzzle.
Bottom line, take it ALL into consideration 💪🏼
✨When you overdo it...✨
Last week was busy and I overextended myself. Between teaching Yoga and attending workshops, plus #momlife in between... It happens to the best of us! I’m actually not feeling terrible, but one side of my throat and it’s nearby ear are talking to me. Here are the 4 things I’m doing to support my body’s healing processes!
🌿Thieves Tea - I made a cup of tea and added a drop of Thieves Vitality to it. It’s a phenomenal Immune Support Blend. .
🌿Essential Oil Steam - I heated up a pot of water, turned off once hot, loosely draped a towel over my head and steamed with a drop each of Thieves, Oregano and Peppermint Vitality Oils. I steamed one Oil at a time, not all at once. These Oils are very pure & potent (they’re not your Grocery or Health-food store grade!) and the steam carries them swiftly along! The Oregano and Peppermint really woke me up! WOW! .
🌿Essential Oil Hot Compress - once the hot water stops steaming, make sure the temperature is safe for skin contact, but still hot enough to be helpful! Place another drop of Thieves into the water, grab a small face towel and dip it into the water. Wring the towel out and apply it to the area needing support. For me I’ll be placing it over my sore neck and beneath my ear. .
🌿Rest as much as possible. Goes without saying! I emptied the Chi or Prana bank last week so now it’s time to restore! .

Sometimes you have to get in to get through.
Not going to lie ... last week has been horrid for me when it comes to movement. I had to consciously think about every single move I made, being careful not to move my bones the wrong way. One day I couldn't even do a simple cat'n cow. It was devastating to experience a set back like this. Haven't been in this dark place for months .. crying and cursing and helplessly sobbing included although I knew that it will pass I couldn't help myself to indulge in self-pity.
It's ok, you know? Everyone has something that makes you feel defeated .. IF you let it defeat you.
I know Universe has my back.
I know I need to face the fear and get in to it to get through it.
I know avoiding or neglecting it would do me more harm in the long run.
Every day I stand tall and embrace everything I can learn from it and welcome everything that gets revealed through it.
At the end of the day it’s worth getting into all of this sh!t to eventually, one day get out of it.
Moral of this story: You can only grow stronger!
Have y'all a very happy day and if you are in YOUR dark places seek for comfort. Call a friend, your sister, summon your community so you know you're not alone. Never!!

It’s true self esteem is an inside job .. you need a strong platform on which to place your confidence and resilience but it’s always good to get a lift !

🔥🔥🔥 The element of Fire. Too much of it creates an imbalance in the body. A fiery practice, fiery food, a fiery liaison (I wish 😂) everything can cause an imbalance. It's our job to balance it out, to be well-rounded. To maintain that fire I practice in a way that doesn't fan the flames.
In my case the imbalance shows up as an inflammation of the joints aka Rheumatoid Arthritis triggered by gluten. Without knowing I ate some gluten last week and I have to pay the price. Joints are more swollen than usual. And since my left hip joint is always a bit swollen at any time of the day it hurts just a tad more.
What happens when gluten gets into my system? Basically my body can't differentiate between my own DNA and gluten DNA (which gets into the system through the permeability of the intestines). My immune system totally realises that there is an alien in my body but can't see it so it overreacts in shooting blindfolded. Imagine a birthday cake with one candle on it and you are using the fire extinguishers to come to the rescue. Good news is it takes only 2-3 weeks until it's out of the body again.
Gluten is not always about bloating, a rash or feeling inconvenient. It can be even life threatening or deadly. For me it's all about the question: Can I or can I not move and do something for myself. And I can. Always. #noexcuses
First two slides are the more instagrammable variations of the inverted rabbit. 3nd slide shows you the yummy one. This one makes it easier for the neck and the back and I stay in here for up to 20min. With the blanket under my back, the sandbags on my ankles and the strap I can let go of the investment aka effort of holding the pose.
Random share . Something that helps explain my path - Someone recently asked me what made me so interested in self-care at a young age? What made me go to my first yoga class?
All I could think about is my car accident 17 years ago. The 30 seconds in my life that changed my body forever and I was 19. I made a left turn but he was speeding. I don’t remember any of it. It was a early morning I was going to babysit, all I remember is leaving the driveway. My next memory is coming to in the car and thinking it was crazy my rear view mirror was in my hand and my room mates feet were standing outside my car window and she sounded upset. I was in a different place mentally I felt calm and warm that changed quickly once I had to be moved. I was rushed to the hospital thankfully needing nothing more then lots of scans . Random little stitches from glass and a row of staples from my head going through a window. I am honestly very lucky and not trying to be dramatic. Am I healthy and happy and did I survive YES. I walked out of the hospital 2 days later. The months and year’s that followed my body started to fall a part. My spine had taken a big hit. I started getting horrible migraines. My back hurt and has everyday since. My body was a mess yet at the same time I felt healthy. I didn’t know what to do, so I went to Yoga.
I love teaching and helping people understand that no matter how you feel today, what scars you have or the road you’ve traveled you can feel better. You can help YOU. What better way to kickstart the new year than by firing up the core and building some strength?
Here’s are some exercises you might give a try!
Don’t have an an roller? Skip that exercise! You really only need a pair of socks, slippery floors (or carpet if you really want a challenge!), and a mat! Aim for 5x reps per side (even though i didn’t do that 😅)!
Here’s the sequence:
- hold forearm plank (as long as you can!)
- dolphin pikes (5-10x)
- forearm hip twists (5x per side)
- High plank holds (with toes untucked)
- High plank knee crunches (5-10x)
- High plank twisting knee crunches (5x per side)
- ab crunches (keep upper back rounded, arms straight, and tailbone tucked)
- ab side crunches
- high plank holds on ab roller
- downdog to dolphin pushups (5x)
- downdog to high plank shifts (5x)
- dolphin dips with legs on wall (5x)
- feet on wall high plank hold (15 sec)
- feet on wall knee to triceps (3-5x each side)
- Side plank Hip dips (5x per side)
- Side plank oblique hugs (5x per side)

EDIT: A few of my followers are mentioning that this place should be kept a secret because otherwise people will make it dirty and full of trash. It is true in some ways and I thank you for your comment as it allows me to edit my post. I personally think that is it ok to share my best favorite spots because this is why you guys are following me, we all love to learn about new, secret spots to explore. For me it is OBVIOUS THAT IT IS OUR DUTY to keep everywhere we go clean when we leave. I know that my community [mainly Mauritian] is educated and love Nature as much as I do so I know I can trust you on keeping magical place like this one clean. It is a good occasion for me to spread awareness on this matter. Even yesterday I collected so many trash from the sea, like everyday...
