So much to say about this book, I don’t know where to start. It’s quite astounding. It featured heavily on many peoples books of the year 2018 lists, and I had listened to the interview @elizabday did with Tara on her ‘How to Fail’ podcast, so my expectations were high ,but it did not disappoint. It’s absolutely fascinating, shocking and moving. For those of you who haven’t heard of it,it is the memoir of Tara Westovers upbringing in a Mormon family who were survivalists, living in rural Idaho. I don’t want to reveal too much, but I highly recommend it. Some books I read I leave by my bed to pick up at bedtime, but some are taken everywhere I go in case I get an opportunity to sneak a read, and this definitely fell into that category. Just buy it. .

🥀 Happy Friday readers! Are not these funkos of Aladdin precious? I want to see the movie. And you?
🥀 Feliz viernes lectores! Me ayudan?
I find myself drawn - no pun intended - to books with art or painting in the title or subject matter. Actually I love the whole title of this one because I’m rather drawn to silence also - when my world is peaceful and my thoughts are quieter or silent I find that I enjoy my reading world more.
“When Tinu drew a room he drew it empty. He drew it as it was but somehow what you saw was not the room but it’s emptiness. With a door you saw the opening. When he drew a pitchfork left leaning against the barn wall you saw its abandonment. How could she have explained that? An outsider might see no more than a murky sketch on a scrap of paper. Something that was too small and too inward to be communicated.”
During and after the the Second World War.
Our two protagonists are reflecting upon their lives. They have grown up together with a strong unspoken bond of understanding. She - Safta - is the daughter of the house; he - Augustin - is the illegitimate son of the cook. He is deaf and mute and communicates his perceptions of the world through his drawings/art. After many years apart, they find themselves together again with so much needing to be said but somehow words are inadequate.
This is a novel about the passage of time, the senselessness of war and of shattered lives.
I really admired the way that the beautiful language of this story was used to convey a voice for this man whose world lacked language.
Does a particular word in the title or subject matter attract you to pick up a book?
*does a evil laugh* my new babies. My goal is to read at least 12 books 😂 i know that’s a low number but trust me. If you like to read you’ll go through books like crazy and you wouldn’t realize it. I have a obsession with finding new books. #reading#read#reader#mysterybooks#thrillerbooks#romancebooks
What an emotionally complex novel. The Great Alone was a roller coaster of grief and sadness, hope and love. You really get it all in this one. I resonated with so much of Leni and her upbringing, to the point that I found myself wanting to shout at her, “Stay strong!” or “You can do it!” time and again. What was the last book you read that had you rooting for a character, wanting to give them words of encouragement, or hand them a book to read? Please tell me I’m not alone in this! #theardentbiblioreads
I was in the mood for a cuddly unicorn, so here we are 😅
I’ll do more exciting posts again once I’m not sick anymore.
Thanks to @fairyloot I have a little collection of books with sprayed pages. I love sprayed pages 💖
How about you?
Just finished this and I’m conflicted. Like I said in my story already as well, I enjoyed it, but I’m also sort of pissed at how this clearly tried to be The secret history - my favorite book of all time. From atmosphere to basic premise to protagonist to plot - there were very little differences to find. Even one of the characters had the same name. At least try to be subtle about it, you know. However, one thing I did very much enjoy in this one is the surprising ending. I feel like I would absolutely love this book if I hadn’t read TSH first.

First of all the cover is so eye soothing and I found it beautiful with the apt title.
Narration has a moderate pace made easy to read for all kinds of readers in a lucid language .
Raj and Vira are two constrasting characters but they shortly fall in love and decide to bind themselves in to marriage.
The Story beautifully portrays the heart warming relation which turns in a clash of disagreements as pressure of responsibilities and disagreements of opinions arise between them.
The plot is kept quite realistic. But the big twist comes when Vira comes to know she cannot give birth and she pushes Raj away to almost like release him from this bind and let him pursue his long kept dreams.
There are different twists. I dont really want to leak and be a spoiler just to let you know couple of decades later one writer emerges with a character mentioned in his work. Who is this and who is the character. How fate plays its roles ? To know more read this book.
The emotions are waived with captivating words that help visualize the moments , feel them and the background easily.
Reality is sometimes different so Life too sometimes puts forward ups and downs challenging relationships , but if hearts are connected even fate too paints the best picture for them with it's own strokes.
The only cons - If fonts were a big bigger I would have loved it for the book is asthetically pleasing.
It is a nice good book.
I rate 4/5

Cuáles lecturas indispensables has leído ??? 📚

Such a cosy place. Perfect to read my book by the fireplace while it's snowing outside 📚🔥
Good morning! Do you read any literary magazines as well as books? I enjoy browsing @literaryhub but apart from that I didn’t really fancy any literary magazines... Until I saw Janel @keeperofpages post about @tokenmagazine and my interest was very much piqued!
Drawing its name from the tokenism underrepresented groups often face in arts and literature, Token Magazine focuses on highlighting voices from these groups, including people of colour, the LGBTQ+ community, women, and people with disabilities, and features fiction and non-fiction pieces, all edited & designed by @sarajafari 😊
I’ve been savouring it and reading one article a night when I get into bed, and so far I’ve read in issue 2 (Bodies) an extremely interesting essay on women in body-horror movies, a piece on the struggles of asthma, an extremely moving & powerful piece on self-harm, a woman’s observations on the damaging mentality towards skin tones in the Philippines, and a thoughtful story on the way we view our bodies versus the way others perceive them. A very broad range and I’m really enjoying making my way through it and exploring new voices and subjects! ♥️
helloooo everyone, happy Friday! ✨ what are you currently reading? I’m almost done with the silent patient, and it is soooo good 😍

Let’s talk about something I rarely talk about in my captions: tv-shows! And who else is kinda blown away by some of @netflix original content? I binged YOU in two days and I loved it to bits - seriously. It was so, so good. Now I’m even more excited for Netflix originals 😍👏🏻
Other shows I love is the 100, Black Mirror, Game of Thrones, Stranger Things and the Walking Dead (though the last one I’m about to give up on... which is sad bc I’ve been a hardcore fan since it came out). I also tried A Discovery of Witches but meh - I do want to read the books though.
Who are your favorites? Do you have any recommendations for me?
