[painting of princess victoria melita, grand duchess of hesse and by rhine later grand duchess victoria feodorovna of russia and her daughter princess elisabeth of hesse and by rhine by guirand de scevola]
victoria melita was the second daughter of prince alfred, duke of saxe-coburg and gotha and grand duchess maira alexandrovna of russia. she was a granddaughter of queen victoria and tsar alexander ii. she was also a cousin of nicholas ii, and alexandra feodorovna, and the sister of queen marie of romania.
in her teens victoria fell in love with her cousin grand duke kirill vladimirovich but was forced to marry her other cousin grand duke ernest louis. they had one child, princess elisabeth of hesse. elisabeth was close to her cousins, otma, and was very close to her father and had a difficult relationship with her mother after her fathers and mothers divorce. she died of typhoid fever at the age of 8.
victoria finally married kirill in 1905, and was exiled from russia because they didn’t ask permission from nicholas ii. they had two daughters and settled in paris. in 1910, they moved back to russia, where nicholas recognized her as grand duchess victoria feodorovna.
after the fall of the monarchy in 1917, they escaped to finland where she gave to birth to grand duke vladimir. in exile they lived in germany with some of her relatives. in 1926, kirill proclaimed himself emperor in exile, and victoria supported him, but soon became furious with him because of his affairs and didn’t want anything to do with him, and finally died in 1936, while suffering a stroke while visiting her daughter marie.
victoria would of been empress of russia if the revolution never occurred, and was the daughter of princess kira of prussia, who would of become empress of germany if not ww1 had not happen. also the current claim to the russian throne, maria is her granddaughter.
This is an older mini dream cloud. I’ve been dreaming a lot lately. Day dreaming and Night dreaming. My sleeping dreams have been a little bit stressful recently (ranging from car crashes to missing flights to being back in school to fighting with someone I love) but my waking dreams have been different. My fiancée and I have been dreaming about getting a gorgeous little camper van recently and traveling all over the states and exploring national parks. I’ve been in my head a lot thinking about what a sweet little home our van could be right now. I’m still struggling a little bit with painting right now. Still going through the motions of being in an art funk. #painting#oilpainting#oilpaint#paint#clouds#cloudpainting#dreams#dreaming#fineart#artist#art
