How fitting That she shares a birthday with MLK
Her sincerity, compassion and loyalty for fairness and justice is rooted in her actions and service. she talks the talk and she walks the walk coming from a place of pure giving, serving and showing up as her best self to offer to those around her.
Suroor is a gift from above. I’m grateful and blessed to have her presence in my life and my family’s life. A friend since before I was born.
My mom always shares with me how she was pregnant with me when she first met Suroor who came to our home in New York dressed in a frock holding her mom’s hand. Who knew that our journey would bring us to a path intertwined from our parents to us to our kids and our siblings.
May we benefit and support each other for generations to come. May God gift you and your family everything good for you in this world and the next.
You are worth more than how productive you were today.
Being productive + feeling a sense of achievement is wonderful UNTIL it begins to inhibit your emotional state + sense of self-worth.
We live in a society where it's all about the hustle! It is all too common for women to feel a sense of shame + guilt when they are not as productive as they'd like to be.
I have certainly felt this in the past & can often get caught up in it without realising.
So, here's to balance & not being so hard on ourselves! 😊
This is my hijabi version of the @chalkandnotch#fringedresspattern with improvised long sleeves. Fabric is a rayon from @pdxsewingstudio . The more I sew my own clothes, the more I appreciate the art of garment design. The fabric, the buttons, the collar, sleeves, and hem- every design element has to come together in just the right way to create a beautiful finished piece. It’s much more difficult to achieve than I first thought when I began this journey. When I purchased this pattern, I thought it would be straightforward to simply extend the sleeves to full length. Now I realize how many design choices I have to make in drafting a sleeve. What if it’s not the right sleeve for the dress? So much goes into the clothes that we wear that I never thought about when I shopped in fast fashion.

Exactly one year ago today I got an email from a publisher saying she was interested in my manuscript but I should tweak some things and resend to her to take another look. I was so excited and at that point I joined my local @scbwi group, asked others to critique my manuscript, and spent hours proof-reading and editing at coffee shops and libraries. Months later my manuscript was rejected from the publisher and it was okay! My manuscript had improved and I was more confident and still grateful that I got tips from the publisher. Rejections may be disappointing but you can learn so much about yourself from them. And they also keep you in check and keep you humble. keep pushing through and after a rejection, make it a learning experience.

Did you forget to send me flowers ?
Or perhaps a note when I was unwell
Did I slip your mind
When I tumbled down and fell
Where was your card to say thanks
Or your phone call to enquire after me
Where was the concern
For me and my precious family
The toughest lesson to learn is this
only a handful of people are really dear
Others might be present in happier times
In tough times they seem to disappear
But don’t lose hope
There is ONE whose promise is true
Find comfort in who says
Remember me - I will remember you

We are so thrilled and honoured to announce that Sayyida Nimah Nawwab, author of Canvas of the Soul: Mystic Poems from the Heartland of Arabia, has generously donated her book as one of this year’s Letters to the Beloved ﷺ prizes!. .
About the book: ‘From the heartland of Islam arise poems of fiery love and peace, composed by a modern-day female poet descended from a long line of Meccan (from Mecca) scholars. The inspiring combination of the traditional and modern in these compositions will touch the inner souls and captivate the hearts of those interested in Higher Love in these turbulent times of transition and frantic search for peace.’ .
Thank you @nimahnawwab !
