It still blows my mind at how often and how (easily) we can choose people who aren’t able to show up for us.
A part of having someone “show up” requires them to be able to mirror our strengths, express affection towards us, and be supportive during our tender moments.
If we are used to a critical parent, we may choose partners who can “tell us the truths in harsh ways” even though deep down we feel icky about it.
If we had a super invasive parent, we may choose partners who are very intense and can engage us in ways that don’t really honor our boundaries.
It’s hard to see this clearly at first.
It’s hard to see what’s really “healthy” vs. what’s actually (not) healthy.
It takes time to learn how to be drawn to people that are good for us if we haven’t had healthy role models.
We may have been scarred by an earlier toxic relationship that crushed our self esteem at a critical age.
It takes time to recover and trust someone with our heart again.
But here’s the good news.
It’s totally possible.
It does however require that we bring a little more logic into our choices alongside our emotions.
It requires that we pay attention to things that we may have overlooked and made excuses for in the past.
It requires that we value what we bring to the table and not put potential partner’s on an unhealthy pedestal (that is far above ourselves).
It requires a healthy sense of boundary setting early on to get a sense of whether someone is willing to value our standards.
We feel like there is something (right) about us when someone can see and appreciate the very things we value about ourselves.

🌿 Announcement!!!! 🌿
I’ve been going back and forth for months trying to decide WHAT I want my photography name to be. I just wasn’t please with what my name was anymore. I needed something that said it was MINE, but something sweet and simple. I’ve always loved my name, not many people out there have it. SO I’ve decided to bring my photography upgrades and changes in with a new name! I’m growing and want to show another side of ME! MMphotography is now Maggie’s Photography!
