6. They keep you in a constant state of gratitude
7. They help you appreciate the small things
𝘕𝘰𝘵𝘦: Take a deep breath before you start with your affirmations. Stand before a mirror and look yourself in the eyes. Say each word slow and clear. Repeat the affirmations 3-5x. If you do this everyday you will see changes.
Where your awareness goes, energy flows but you still have to put in the work (Dandapani, 2018). Let us know what affirmations you tell yourself and what feeling this gives you.

You can only change the way you think when you start to pay attention to what you’re thinking.
Thoughts constantly drift in and out of our minds and it’s quite easy to go through the day without noticing the thoughts that you allow to drift in and out of your mind.
When you start paying attention to your thoughts, that’s when you’ll start to notice your negative thoughts; - thoughts like – ‘It’s no use, I can’t do it’, ‘what’s the point in even trying?’ ‘I’m useless’, ‘I’m hopeless’, ‘no one likes me’, I’m ugly, ‘I’m stupid, I’m boring…
Remember that thoughts are not facts. In fact negative thoughts are completely unrealistic and usually based on assumptions. And when you’re not making assumptions, you’re trying to predict the future or some catastrophy, such as –
• What if I can’t make any new friends at college?
• What if nobody likes me at my new job?
• What if no one turns up for my party and it ends up being a complete disaster?
It’s so easy to believe these thoughts when you’re feeling low, anxious or stressed, which is not helpful at all…
So how can you change your negative thoughts? By challenging them. You start to take control of your thoughts when you start to challenge them and you can challenge them by asking yourself the following questions –
1. What is the evidence that my thoughts are true?
2. What is the evidence that my thoughts are not true?
3. Is my judgment based on facts or the way I feel?
4. What would a friend say about my thoughts?
5. What would I tell a friend if he/she had similar thoughts?
6. What is the worst thing that could happen about my situation?
7. If it did happen, how would I cope with or handle it?
8. What is the best thing that could happen about my situation?
9. Could I look at the situation another way?
10. How will I feel about this in a year or two?
By the time you’ve asked yourself these questions and answered them honestly, you’ll start to feel differently about your negative thoughts and start to replace them with more positive ones.
